Pre-K Tests and Essay Item

Test and Essay Items

Pre-K is a very important stage of development. Students are preparing for formal education. I choose to focus my instructional objectives on the first three letters of the alphabet. In two weeks the objectives was to effectively have my students learn to write, identify both upper and lowercase /Aa/ /Bb/ and /Cc/, as well as correctly label items that begin with the letters /Aa//Bb/, and /Cc/. Through various classroom activities students will gain knowledge and skills to that will provide valid data to assess whether students are ready to move forward to the next three letters of the alphabet or if adjustments are necessary and more time should be dedicated in order for students to successful achieve the current learning outcomes.

Activities were created to support instructional objectives and provide students with the necessary skills to complete tests. One test will provide data to measure the students’ ability to identify upper and lower case /Aa/ /Bb/ and /Cc/ students need to complete it with 80% accuracy. The second test measures students ability to identify items that began with A, B, or C with 80% accuracy required. The third test required children to be able to legible write both uppercase and lowercase /Aa/ /Bb/ and /Cc/ two out of three times. The data collected will be used to make decisions on next course of action for instruction. If children have not successful grasp learning objectives more time will be spent on the first three letters of the alphabet. If children have successfully accomplished learning objectives I will move the class forward with the next three letters of the alphabet.
Essay items were created with different learning styles in mind. I chose to read the Berenstain Bears B Book to the students. This book was aligned with the learning objectives because it is filled with words that start with the letter B. It was very colorfully illustrations and it is very entertaining. At this age learning should be fun and engaging and this book provides both. The students will be asked to oral tell some of the items that were mentioned in the story that began with the letter /B/. What color was the bear in the book? What color was the bull? I will ask the kids what happened to baby bird’s balloon in order to see if the children can effectively recall details of the story.
